How do a company or an organization controls risk ? In what way can it protect its clients and even employees? There is a good and important step in any companys risk management. Careful screening of companys staff and volunteers is what needs to be done in order to minimize the risk and protect a company or an organization. One tool which can be used in this process is a background check. The background check provides an extra measure of protection if an organization deals with vulnerable clients. Screening out inappropriate individuals from staff or volunteer positions protects clients ( if any ) and inside staff from harm and reduces the risk of lawsuits filed against an organization. As most for- profit organizations many nonprofit organizations do the background checks on volunteers and employees routinely.


Some that dont do it have to understand and realize all the responsibility that the company has before innocent and vulnerable people. Each company has to understand the unique needs of these groups. Many groups are hampered by lack of funding. Others fear alienating their volunteer base by requiring background screening. There are many programs and services that provide non-profit organizations and help them to screen volunteers. This complete investigation will provide the an organization with proper information that can help in either qualify or disqualify a volunteer. It is important for any non-profit organization to give all volunteers clear and understandable duties and guidelines in order for them to behave and perform in a manner that is consistent with the organizations mission and operational standards.
