Human Resource Management - Personnel Issues In recent times many companies deploy new approaches when it comes to evaluating their potential employees. The reason for this appears to be purely cosmetical, that is companies want to gain reputation of being innovative. The increase of their workforce efficiency seems to be a secondary consideration in this case. The example of Tech Planet, of Menlo Park, CA, which uses a weekly lunches and "wacky follow-up sessions" as substitutes for first-round job interviews, is very representative in this respect. Apparently, the professional requirements for the employees of Tech Planet are quite low, otherwise this company wouldnt be able to afford wasting time on pursuing the policy of political correctness. There seems to be only one issue involved with this method of screening whether persons ability to mingle can substitute his professional qualities.
As practice shows, an excessive promotion of team spirit in every company, serves as the ultimate mean to of making additional profits at the expense of employees. McDonalds is a good example of that- its employees are required to work extra hours when its needed, without getting paid. The only mean to encourage them to do so is the fact that they suppose to be part of corporate culture Although, companies that actively practice innovative screening methods claim that their foremost concern is making it easier for candidates to enroll, what theyre really after, is the most efficient exploitation of its workers, as those who owe company favors. There is no doubt that this form of candidates selection will increase diversity at Tech planet. Yet, this issue has nothing to do with companys effective functioning as commercial enterprise. Here we deal with classic example of politics being mixed with economy, which can never be beneficial in the long run.
The most fundamental law, upon which our economy is based, is making profit. Nowadays, those who promote diversity appear to be concerned with rather with political issues.
