Human Resource Management - Training & Development The importance of companys investments in its employees professional development can hardly be overestimated. That is, if company deploys a progressive management style. In this case, the professional personnel requirements will guarantee companys commercial efficiency. Yet, these requirements can only remain as a decisive factor in companys hiring policies, if they are based on the principle of continuous improvement of employees educational level. Therefore, the most important career development activity is investing in continuing education. The more person knows the more he is valuable as employee.


Many companies had recognized the importance of this practice and often as much as 20% -30% of their spending consist of expenses on improving the quality of their personnel. This includes, setting up professional courses on site and also sending employees to attend lectures at college or university, at companys expense. Investing in education will also benefit company by reducing its employees turnover ratio, which is very important if company wants to remain competitive on todays dynamic market. In order to make employees less susceptible to stress, every commercial company has to invest in providing recreational facilities to its personnel. This career development activity might not appear as having anything to do with continuing education, but this is only on the surface. As a matter of fact, in order for people to be willing to spend their time on educational activities, they have to be relieved of stress.


Stress relievers, such as gym, cuts down on health costs and makes employees more productive and happier, which will have a direct impact on increasing companys efficiency. Also, providing medical or dental plans to the workers will cause them to strongly associate their future with this particular company. Workers need to feel that organization or company really cares about their well-being. A corporate culture comes as very powerful tool, in this respect.
