In Japan, animation is like god. Animated characters have been on the top among Japanese films for more than a decade. In the beginning of 1994, animated TV programs reached their highest average viewer ratings of 16.1%. To compare it to the year 1993, it increased up to 9%. This popularity of animated programs had gone fare beyond the borders of Japan. The countries animated exports headed top TV ratings in Asia as well as in Europe.


Just as a new hit appears, buyers from different countries are knocking on the producers' doors while the project is still not finished. In Spain, for example, animated programs total up to 22 hours per week, and more than half of them is produced in Japan. More over, half of the comic books in Spain are in Japanese. Though Japanese animation is known for its violence, this kind of program is not the most popular in Japan. Nowadays Japanese animation is considered to be much better than American cartoons for some specialists. And what is important, there is a larger number of them available on the market. .


The creative source of Japanese animated characters takes its roots in the suburbs of Tokyo. There Ghibli is situated, a studio where all those characters are born. It is also a place where Hayao Miyazaki, the most famous animator, creates his films. He has been the most constantly successful film producer in Japan during the '90s. This is due to his hard work and animated movies that go far beyond the norm. But not only the extraordinary imagination of the director is the foundation of the success that Miyazaki's movies had gained throughout the world. It is due to his bright mind and ability to think as a businessman.


There is no doubt that a good animated movie cant be produced without creativity and imagination. But two these and all other aspects that give ground to success must be organized proper. Without Miyazaki's leading and merchandizing skills Ghibli would newer become a prosperous company like it is now. It takes about eighty thousand hand-drawn pictures to create an animated film. There approximately 100 employees in Ghibli. Most of them are artists, whose hands make great deal of the work only.


Miyazaki claims that interesting stories and attention to details provide success to their work. The problem is that Miyazaki himself never knows whether a new movie will be successful even if it is done professionally. He prefers to use some extra time and exertion to do better. No matter how much effort and money was spent already. He used to tell his workers that movies they produce are high-risk, high quality, and high-cost. This not only drives responsibility, but also brings high return.


One more aspect of Miyazakis success is his professionalism. Also most of the work is done by hands, the techniques used are more technically proficient as compared to those in other countries. In addition all the work is done in Ghibli and never sent overseas. It is less costly but not less professional! Having composed a team of specialists and brining up new ones in his studios, Miyazaki does not save money while producing movies; he earns them by engaging highly qualified stuff. This kind of doing business also helps to correct mistakes and bring in some improvements quickly. To create the right ambience at Ghibli took a lot of efforts and hard work.


"I have a speech I give to new employees. I tell them not to worry about loving the company. That's not the object. I tell them to love their work; to love themselves; to work here three or four years and then be off to do something more exciting- Miyazaki says. He also does great work by motivating his employees grow professionally Who knows if the next film might be the death of our company? It might fail at the box office. If the company goes down, the people still have to eat. So you should be worried more about improving your skills too.


One of the Miyazakis techniques that brought him success is that he always tries to do things better. That is why he takes up challenges and is ahead his business. Though animation is probably the funniest industry, it is also the hot one now.
