Is Homosexuality/Gay Marriage Constitutional? More than three forth of all people in the United States favour equal rights for gays and lesbians. However, when it comes to legal marriage between homosexuals the attitude towards gays slightly changes. About half of all the United States citizens obstruct gay marriage. In other words, many Americans have somewhat controversial feelings towards homosexuals; significant part of heterosexuals that support gay rights disfavours them in the issue of marriage (M. Strasser, 126). Statistic shows that about six out of ten prefer their state resolve the conflict, while the other four out of ten agree with a constitutional amendment that banns marriage between homosexuals (A. Sullivan, 97). The President of the United States George W.


Bush backed that constitutional amendment by telling in one of his speeches that he does not support any attempts aimed to legitimate gay marriage. George W. Bush also mentioned his decision to restrain active minded judges and lawyers from the perversion of the institution of marriage. "After more than two centuries of American jurisprudence and millennia of human experience, a few judges and local authorities are presuming to change the most fundamental institution of civilization. Their action has created confusion on an issue that requires clarity." stated George W. Bush (M. Strasser, 176).


At a news conference that took place in the White House Rose Garden George W. Bush told the correspondents, "I believe in the sanctity of marriage.
